Friday 5: Five Fall Fashion Must Haves

Today's Friday 5 is our last installment of our Fashion Week series and features Megan from Beauty on a College Budget!

 

Hey I'm Megan from Beauty on a College Budget. I run a blog about finding beauty items on a college budget. Today I'm here to tell you about the 5 must have fashion pieces in your fall wardrobe. 

•   Knee high leather boots. This is a piece if you take care of them will last you years. You should buy a sturdy pair. Look at how's it's made. Just because its leather doesn't mean it's properly made.  Check to make sure there isn't any thread sticking out anywhere.  I think flat boots are overlooked. I think everyone should at least one pair of flat boots!

• Gray Vneck this is a shirt that looks good with yoga pants, jeans, leggings. This looks good with even colored jeans or sweats. The shape of the collar of a vneck is virtually flattering on everyone.  It's also the perfect shirt color to wear with a scarf that won't clash with the designs on the scarf.

• Lace trim. I've been seeing lace trim on everything. Not only is it a big trend right now I just feel like a little bit of lace makes an outfit classy. To me lace is just elegant when done correctly. Trust me there is such a thing as too much lace.  Try to find a piece of clothing with the same color lace as the fabric. NEVER wear two different color lace!

• Plain Flannel shirt.  It never fails to go out of style. I don't care if you say it's Kurt cobain inspired. It's not. It's something warm to throw over a tshirt when a sweatshirt or jacket is too heavy. Pair a purple flannel with a cami and your set.

• Thick leggings.  No one wants to see  your underwear, nor should your gambs freeze in the cold. I have a few thick fleece leggings that I love to wear with an oversized crewneck sweatshirts. Hanes also sells really nice crewneck sweatshirts.

Simple Fall Nails!

Today for Fashion Week Ariel of Lacquer is the Best Medicine is sharing some great simple fall nail colors with us!

We all love the fancy glitter polishes. Whether it's a glitterbomb in a clear base, a crelly with neon hexes, or a jelly with lots of circle glitters, we usually agree: the more, the merrier! However, I think I speak for many polish lovers when I say that sometimes I am just in the mood for a simple, basic polish. Whether it's because I don't want to deal with glitter removal or just because I am going for simplicity, sometimes I just want LESS going on on my nails.

Since indie makers primarily focus on glitter polishes, I usually reach for a drugstore brand when I want a simple, basic mani. But that makes me sad, because I LOVE supporting indie polish makers!

Well, lucky for all of us indie supporters, Pretty & Polished will soon be releasing their Basics Line - which is exactly what these polishes are: basic! Nothing too bright or out-there, some subtle shimmer, and some nice earth tones. So now when I'm feelin' simple, I can reach for an indie brand! YAY!

There are six polishes total in this collection, and all of them are very easy to work with. Let's take a look!

First up is Carrigan, a peachy/nude creme with slight rosy-pink undertones. I used three coats to achieve full opacity, and I think three coats does the trick to even it all out. Swatches are with Glisten & Glow HK Girl topcoat.

Lilly is a perfect Barbie pink with a subtle shimmer. Shown below is three coats of Lilly with HK Girl topcoat.

Blaire is a spicy pumpkiny-red color with some subtle shimmer. Swatches show three coats without topcoat.

Luna is a bright shimmery blue with a slightly metallic look to it. It's not the most original color, and I own several dupes for this one; but that's a good thing, because it's so pretty! =) Shown below is three coats of Luna without topcoat.

Simone is a lovely emerald green color with a hint of teal to it. This one has some shimmer also, and like Luna, Simone has a slightly metallic look to it. Swatches below show three coats of Simone.

Last but not least we have Isadora: an awesome blueish-purple duochrom with some gorgeous green shimmer. Swatches show three coats of Isadora. 

And there you have it, lacquerbeans! Pretty & Polished's Basics collection is perfect for any indie polish supporter who just needs a break from all that glitter!

Blog of the Week: Love, Kate

This week's Blog of the Week is none other than fashion blogger Kate of the blog Love, Kate!  Check out my interview with Kate about her blog! 

1. Tell us a little about you and your blog. 

My name is Kate. I am a 30 something mother of 3 working for on bachelors degree towards teaching. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we've been together for 20 years! I love working out, fashion, makeup, and all things girly. 

2. Why did you choose fashion blogging over other types of blogging? 

I really love clothes. I mean obsessed. I love to shop and look forward to seeing all the latest fashions that appear each season. Clothes is just something I enjoy talking about. 

3. What has been your favorite fashion post you've written so far? 

My favorite would have to be my tutorial on how to make a midi ring. I have gotten amazing feedback from it and I had a blast making them. You can find the post here: How to Make Midi a Ring

4. What kind of fashion post do you enjoy most and why (outfits, advice, make up etc) 

I love putting together inspiration boards and wishlists. I want to get more of my own fashion posts back in the mix, but at the time I am trying to figure a new routine since I just added a full time job to the mix. Each week I always have an inspiration board ready to go along with collages of just pretty things. 

5. What is your best advice for fall fashion this season? 

My best advice for the fall is just to keep things simple. Here in Maryland, we have crazy weather... one day it'll be sooooo hot with the next day being gorgeous. I plan on using lot's of simple tee's paired with jeans and cute statement necklace. This look would be adorable with riding boots or even some flats in a pattern. I also plan on sporting flannels. J.Crew has some adorable ones and can be easily dressed up with heels and a string of pearls. It's all about having fun and letting your own personal style shine through the latest trends.

An Interview with Fashion Blogger Carissa!

Today for Fashion Week we have an exclusive interview with Carissa of Lillies & Silk!

1. Tell us a little about you and your blog.

 I'm Carissa, a wife, a SAHM of two boys, and an English Toy Spaniel named Sir.  Although, I don't work in the fashion industry I have a great love for it.  I enjoy finding good shopping deals and sewing totes and zipper pouches when I can squeeze a little time in as well. My blog is primarily about my everyday fashion, finding good shopping deals, and an occasional sewing project.

2. What do you like most about being a fashion blogger?

What I like most about being a fashion blogger is putting together an outfit and being able to showcase it through my blog. 

3.  Do you ever incorporate your life stories in to your fashion post?  Why or why not?

Yes, I do try to incorporate my life stories in my fashion post whenever I can.  Why, because I'd like for my readers to get to know me on a more intimate and personal level.

4. What is your favorite type of post- outfits, makeup, sewing or other (and why)
 

I would say my favorite type of post are my outfit posts, because I get to showcase my outfit for the day, as well as include a good shopping deal or two.

5. What is your best advice for fall fashion?

My best advice for fall fashion is to do a little research to see what fashion trends are in.  For instance, a jacket is just as important as the rest of your clothing, so by looking for a jacket with a bold color would be a piece to add to your wardrobe for the fall.
