Friday 5: Five Great Beer Spots in North Brooklyn

 On today's Friday 5:  North East Blogger Lorena shares her top 5 beer spots in North Brooklyn with us! (complete with map so you can easily find them!)  Check it out!

 

1. Spritzenhaus 33
This is my go-to for beer drinking in Greenpoint. It's just north of McCarren Park and fills a GIANT space. There's tons of seating, two large bars, and 25 taps with 4 being seasonal rotations. My favorite is the Green Flash IPA. They also do a great pretzel with chipotle aioli dip and have other food options like brats and fries. The bartenders are great! Very easy going and friendly. It can get super loud on weekends with all the long tables full of groups and the squeals of people losing at Jenga. In nice weather they offer outdoor seating and open up giant garage style windows, and in the colder months they always have a big fire going inside.

2. Berry Park
This is a large bar as well, just down the road from Spritzenhaus 33. They offer indoor seating on the first floor and show European leagues' soccer matches on weekends, along with major sporting events throughout the year as deemed relevant (like when the Brooklyn Nets were in the playoffs this year). Their major claim to fame though is their beer garden upstairs. It has a cool view of Manhattan over the East River and lots of seating. It gets very busy though, so come early. They specialize in German and Belgian beers with about 13 on tap at a time, but they also do a pretty fabulous frozen alcoholic slushie!

3. One Stop Beer Shop
Despite it's name, this is a bar-restaurant and not a beer store. Though, you can buy growlers of their beers on tap. Hidden on a quiet street near the BQE and the Staples of Greenpoint/north Williamsburg, this intimate bar delivers a nice selection of rotating taps and a huge selection of bottled beers from around the world. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable about the beer, and the food menu is fairly extensive and not limited to just pub food or brats like most of the other bars in the area. It's a great place to go if you're looking to catch up with a friend over some drinks and actually want to hear each other. They offer some cool beer cocktails as well, and I can personally recommend their Cucumber My Ace as a refreshing summer beer cocktail.

4. Rosamunde Sausage Grill
We nicknamed this the Sausage Bar, not because of an all-male clientele (which is not the case at all! Very equal female-male ratio), but because they serve up TONS of sausages, including several veggie sausage options that are quite affordable. They have 24 craft beers on tap with a regular rotation. Bar staff is friendly and efficient and they seem to always have a cult classic film on, last time we went it was The Goonies. It's located in south Williamsburg and definitely worth a go for the sausages and curry ketchup dipping sauce.

5. The Keg & Lantern
This is a neighborhood-y sports bar at heart, with a nice mix of older Polish regulars and twenties to thirty-somethings. Located just by the Nassau stop on the G, the bartenders for the most part all speak Polish (and English, don't worry). They have 32 taps and 2 casks, and there's an amazing Power Hour special from 11pm-midnight on Mon-Thurs for $3 pints. If you need to catch a game, this is a good place to go as they have tons of TVs and the seating is set up for TV viewing. It's also not a bad place to catch up with a friend, as the seating options are good for groups of 2-4. There's a back patio in the summer months and some restaurant style seating in the back for larger groups. They serve a full menu, including some Polish foods, and it's decent eating for dinner offering up really large portions at good prices.

Oh, and did I mention that all of these except Spritzenhaus offer brunch, too? Stay late, come early! :)
